The Tianshan volcano group in the Tianshan Mountains of Xinjiang Province in NW China contains the historically active cone of Pechan (Whitford-Stark, 1987). The volcano was reported to have erupted during the first and seventh centuries. Pechan is also known by a variety of other names, including Peishan, Baishan, Hochan, Aghie, Bichbalick, Khala, and Boschan.
