Alngey, a small late-Quaternary stratovolcano, is located immediately east of the large Pleistocene shield volcano Tekletunup, immediately west of the crest of the northern Sredinny Range. Alngey volcano was constructed near the western margin of a large NE-SW-trending graben running along the axis of the Sredinny Range. Early geologic studies in the Sredinny Range (Ogorodov et al., 1972) identified numerous Holocene eruptive centers based primarily on morphological criteria. However, later work has suggested that Sredinny Range volcanoes are less mantled by Holocene tephras than eastern Kamchatka volcanoes and therefore appear more youthful, so that Holocene eruptions are uncertain for many of these Sredinny Range eruptive vents.
The Global Volcanism Program is not aware of any Holocene eruptions from Alngey. If this volcano has had large eruptions (VEI >= 4) prior to 10,000 years ago, information might be found on the Alngey page in the LaMEVE (Large Magnitude Explosive Volcanic Eruptions) database, a part of the Volcano Global Risk Identification and Analysis Project (VOGRIPA).
This compilation of synonyms and subsidiary features may not be comprehensive. Features are organized into four major categories: Cones, Craters, Domes, and Thermal Features. Synonyms of features appear indented below the primary name. In some cases additional feature type, elevation, or location details are provided.
The Global Volcanism Program has no photographs available for Alngey.
The following references have all been used during the compilation of data for this volcano, it is not a comprehensive bibliography. Discussion of another volcano or eruption (sometimes far from the one that is the subject of the manuscript) may produce a citation that is not at all apparent from the title.
