This snow-slurry lahar formed through brief explosions through the acidic Ruapehu Crater Lake, ejecting around 5,700 m³ of acidic water then entraining 60 times this volume in snow. This view looks up the Whangaehu valley towards the Crater Lake area two days after it was emplaced across the valley floor.
