Niigata-Yakeyama, the peak in the center of the photo seen from the N, is an andesitic lava dome located in Niigata Prefecture. Yakeyama is a young volcano that was constructed beginning only 3,000-3,500 years ago. Several craters formed at the summit and flanks of the dome during eruptions dating back to the 9th century.
