There are 5,971 volcano images available on the GVP website, including 4,243 in these new galleries with updated captions and keywords, and at a larger size.

As populations near volcanoes grow and travel to volcanic areas increases, the potential human impacts associated with volcanic unrest also grows. All volcanic hazards have potential impacts to life, infrastructure, and economies. This includes injury and fatalities, damage to transportation networks, loss of income from tourism, damage to agriculture, damage to technology and machinery. The impacts depend on the nearby communities, the style, size, and duration of the eruption, the distance from the volcano, and the specific eruption processes that can occur simultaneously or through the duration of the eruption.
